Briar Patch Records is an independent record label founded by Jay Trainer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It exists for one reason: to release music that matters — songs built on storytelling, instinct, and the long tradition of artists who choose craft over convenience.

The name comes from the thickets that grow wild across western Pennsylvania — tangled, resilient, rooted deep in difficult soil. That's the kind of music Briar Patch puts out. Not polished for algorithms. Not shaped by trends. Grown slowly, with intention, and released when it's ready.

Every release on the label — from the raw, unpolished live recordings of The Waking Hours to the expanded, firelight-recorded A Whisper of Ruin — Deluxe Edition — reflects a philosophy of patience and authenticity. No rushing a record to meet a deadline. No cutting corners on the sound.
